North Lenoir’s softball team dropped its Eastern Carolina 3A Conference opener 3-1 to Clayton Cleveland at home on Tuesday.
Roxie Stallings went 2-for-4 with a double and Liz Deal was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kaci Letchworth struck out 10 and gave up two hits, both home runs, in the loss.
The Hawks (1-1, 0-1) travel to C.B. Aycock on Friday.
JONES SENIOR 13, KINSTON 0 5 INN.: At Jones Senior, the Trojans picked up a non-conference win with a victory over the Vikings.
Southern Maready went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Holly Sutton was 2-for-2 with a double, Cassidy Sutton was 2-for-3, Paige Hart had two hits and Brittany Jones had a double as Jones Senior (2-0) had 12 hits.
Brittany Baugus, Cassidy Sutton and Holly Sutton combined to hold the Vikings (0-2) hitless.
Jones Senior travels to Warsaw Kenan today while Kinston will host Spring Creek.
PARROTT ACADEMY 11, HALIFAX ACADEMY 2: At Parrott, the Patriots opened their season with a win.
Darci Basden went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Savannah Hill was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, Brianna Casey had two hits and scored three runs, Caroline Casey was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Michelle Ballard had two hits and drove in a run and Summer Taylor had two hits and drove in a run. Casey earned the win. She gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings.

PARROTT ACADEMY 5, HALIFAX ACADEMY 1: At Parrott, the Patriots opened their season with a win.
Holden Arthur scored two goals and added an assist and Langley Mills added a goal and an assist. Sallie Sylvester and Jackie Pilato scored a goal each with assists coming from Campbell Huddle and Madi Finizio. Keeper Anna Sale had three saves as the Patriots outshot the Vikings 19-4.
Parrott (1-0, 1-0 EPIC) travels to New Bern Epiphany School on Thursday.
BETHEL CHRISTIAN 3, NEWPORT GRAMERCY CHRISTIAN 1: At Bethel, the Trojans opened their season with a win.
Jensen Worthington, Haley Moody and Kelsey Worthington all scored for the Trojans while Brice Jones added an assist. Jensen and Kelsey combined for four saves in goal.
Bethel (1-0) will host Jacksonville Christian on Thursday.
SOUTH LENOIR 3, KINSTON 1: At Kinston, the Blue Devils earned a non-conference win on Monday.
Maecy Croom had two goals and Kristin Wright scored a goal for South Lenoir (2-0). Keeper Paige Wetherington had seven saves.
BOYS GOLF
PARROTT WINS EPIC MATCH: Parrott Academy shot a 313 to win a four-team Eastern Plains Independent Conference match at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount on Tuesday.
Riley Davis and Jack Sides were co-medalists with 76s. Other Parrott scores were Wes Simmons (79) and Matthew Simmons (82). The team plays at Prestonwood Country Club on Tuesday.
JV SOFTBALL
NORTH LENOIR 1, CLEVELAND 0: At North Lenoir, the Hawks won their conference opener. Roxie Stallings struck out nine, walked four and gave up one hit in the win. Kamryn Woodward was 2-for-3 and Megan Lanier and Stallings were 2-for-3 with a double each.
