Sorority chapters crown Valentines

Members of the Preceptor Phi chapter and the Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority joined forces for their annual Valentine Ball.

This year’s event was held Feb. 16 at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Anne Webb, was crowned Valentine Queen for Preceptor Phi. Ramona Kirkman was crowned Valentine Queen for Sigma.

 

Electric ‘state of region’ Thursday

GREENVILLE — The North Carolina’s Eastern Region State of the Region will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Greenville Hilton.

The sponsor, Touchstone Energy subsidiary, N.C. Electric Cooperatives, provides safe and affordable energy and related services to households and businesses from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Outer Banks. Eight electric membership cooperations serve the 13-county Eastern Region: Four County EMC, Pitt-Greene EMC, Tri-County EMC, Edgecombe-Martin EMC, Wake EMC, Tideland EMC, Jones-Onslow EMC and Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative.

N.C. Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker will deliver the keynote address at 9 a.m. NCER President & CEO John Chaffee will give the State of the Region report at 11:55 a.m. A panel discussion on transformative education will include Superintendent of Lenoir County Public Schools Steve Mazingo speaking on the impact of STEM Centers in local middle schools. A panel on the logistics industry will include Conti Group Vice President Gene Conti addressing statewide strategies on organizing for growth.

Compassionate care group to host Chamber’s ‘Business’

Continuum Home Care and Hospice will host the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce’s Business after Hours from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 704-M Plaza Blvd.

The home care agency provides professional and compassionate care for those diagnosed with a serious illness, aiming to help the patient live as fully and as comfortably as possible, while being treated with dignity and respect.

Continuum has five offices throughout Eastern North Carolina. The team provides medical professionals, social workers, chaplains and volunteers, all of whom work closely together to promote quality of life for both their patients and families.

Church to serve up spaghetti

Airy Grove Christian Church is serving a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1591 Airy Grove Church Road, Kinston.

Tickets are $7 each, including garlic bread, salad, beverage and dessert, eat in or take out. To get to the church, follow N.C. 58 North past Kinston High School. Turn right on Hugo Road, left on Airy Grove Church Road, and the church is on the left.
