Southwood youth plan auction
The kindergarten through fifth-grade youth group of Southwood Memorial Christian Church is having a fundraiser Saturday to raise money to visit the aquarium and the Pirates Voyage Show in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The doors will open at 5 p.m. to enjoy hot dogs, chips and drinks for $5.
The silent auction, with a variety of items, will start at 5 p.m. also, with bids closing at 6:20 p.m. The live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. Items will include N.C. State University, UNC, ECU, Duke and Carolina Panthers baskets. Each basket will contain two throws, a watch, flag, cap, variety of Christmas ornaments, plus other school memorabilia items. Each basket is worth more than $100. There will be many other items as well on which to bid.
The event will be held in the Family Life Center, 1027 N.C. 58 S., Kinston.
‘Wizard of Oz’ gala today
The North Lenoir High School Gala is today at the Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro.
The reception will begin at 6 p.m., with a buffet dinner at 7 p.m., followed by a Cabaret show at 8 p.m. A disc jockey spinning tunes will provide music and mood for dancing from 9 to 11 p.m.
Ray Kennedy will emcee and accompany the Cabaret show, featuring Michelle Braxton, Heather Shaw and Samantha Holland. Live and silent auctions will be going on during the evening.
The gala, sponsored by the North Lenoir Boosters Club, has been organized to raise $15,000 to fund the flying equipment and orchestra for the high school’s April 18-21 “Wizard of Oz” production — the 50th Broadway musical under the direction of Marian Kennedy, which also was her first at North Lenoir. Money also will fund college scholarships for the school’s Drama Club seniors.
