WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Monday, U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., announced the Town of Pink Hill was awarded a $151,500 grant and a $661,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development. These funds will be used to improve Pink Hill’s water distribution system by replacing water lines and installing fire hydrants and other related appurtenances.
“Maintaining and improving critical infrastructure enables communities in North Carolina to grow and meet the needs of their people,” Hagan said in a press release. “I am pleased that the USDA is providing funds to ensure that the residents of Pink Hill have the fire hydrants they need to keep their community safe and the proper water lines to keep their distribution system running smoothly.”
Pink Hill Mayor Carol Sykes said her town is appreciative for the money.
“We appreciate the USDA-RD loan and grant that will provide better water quality and increase our fire protection with additional fire hydrants,” Sykes said in the press release. “On behalf of the Town of Pink Hill, we thank Elmer Langston of USDA-RD and Senator Hagan for all you have done.”
The grant and loan will be used to supplement costs on the project that was previously approved by the USDA. The additional funds will ensure that the project’s budget remains balanced and will help to cover the increased costs of construction materials.
