It’s time for golf and barbecue

Caswell Center Foundation’s golf tournament, an official BBQ Festival on the Neuse Community Share Partnership event, will be May 2 at the Falling Creek Country Club. Tee off is at 1 p.m. Golf packages are $65 per person for green fee and cart, beverage and service, goody bag, professional photo from Williamson’s Photography and a barbecue chicken meal.

Sponsorships available include: hole sponsor, $100; tournament sponsor, $500; silver sponsor, $1,000; and gold sponsor, $2,000. All proceeds will benefit individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities living within a 38-county region of Eastern North Carolina. The Caswell Center Foundation funds special projects and activities through the mini-grant programs and scholarships for college students pursuing a career in the Allied Health field.

Still time for AARP tax service

Free assistance in filling out and filing personal income tax forms is being provided from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Gordon Street Christian Church Education Building, 118 E. North St. The assistance will run through April 11. No appointment is necessary, just walk in.

Assistance also is available from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, to April 10, at the Lenoir County Council on Aging Skinner Center, 112 E. Blount St. An appointment is necessary; call 252-527-1545.

Federal and State personal income tax returns are being done online by tax-aide volunteers trained through the IRS Taxpayer Education Division.

The Counseling for the Elderly program is sponsored by the AARP Chapter 4109 in cooperation with the IRS. Directed to the senior citizens of Kinston and Lenoir County, the service is also available to the handicapped and others who need assistance and cannot afford to pay. Senior citizens will be given preference.

Those who can benefit include elderly or disabled who may qualify for a tax credit; working single parents who may qualify for child care credit and/or an earned income credit; part-time workers who may be required to file to obtain a refund of tax withheld from wages; and widows and others who have little or no experience in filing.

Required are a copy of last year’s (2011) tax return, income statements, W-2 forms, 1099 forms, Social Security statements and other records for 2012, and the 2012 Tax Form Booklets if received. Also needed is a valid picture ID and all Social Security cards or ITIN cards that will be shown on the return.
