Jones team is fifth in state
The Jones Senior High School FFA Livestock Evaluation team joined 60 other teams in Raleigh recently to compete for the state championship.
Made up of four freshmen, the team placed fifth in the state. It competed in the senior division led by Holly Sutton, placing ninth in the state; Cassidy Sutton, placing 10th; Jonathan Murphy, 55th; and Megan Downs, 59th out of 213 contestants.
The team missed winning the contest by only 84 points, scoring 1,586 to a winning Union Pines with 1,670.
Gospel Voice concert Sunday
The Community Voices Music Ministry will present its third annual spring concert Sunday, “When the Saints Go to Worship: John 4:23-24.”
The concert will be at 4 p.m. at St. Peter Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, 602 J.P. Harrison Blvd., Kinston.
Featured guests will include Brother David Fox and The Voices of Triumph of Maury, Elder Terrell Powell and the Powerful Praise Chorale of Kinston, and the United Gospel Community Choir, also of Kinston.
The extended community is invited to participate and bring friends.
Church plans ‘Spring Fever’ event
Members of First Presbyterian Church will host a “Spring Fever” fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. April 16 at the church, 2101 N. Herritage St.
The event includes a gourmet lasagna dinner, eat in or take out, and a baked/frozen foods sale. Tickets for the lasagna dinner are $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10. The event will provide an opportunity to fill your freezer with homemade foods and enjoy fellowship with friends.

Day of Prayer breakfast planned
The ninth annual Kinston-Lenoir County Community Prayer Breakfast will be from 7 to 8 a.m. May 2, National Day of Prayer, at The Gate of Lenoir County, 201 E. Gordon St.
This event is co-sponsored by the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Congregations. The guest speaker will be Felicia Solomon, former principal of Southeast Elementary School. Each ticket is $10 and includes a full breakfast. The annual Kinston/Lenoir County National Day of Prayer observance will be at noon May 2 on the Lenoir County Courthouse steps.
