League spotlights monthly artist

Naomi Camnitz was the Lenoir County Artist League’s featured “Artist of the Month” for April. Her painting, “Babbling Brook if You See it,” has been on display at The Community Council for the Arts, 400 N. Queen St., all month.

Camnitz has been painting since the 1960s. She is enthusiastic about bringing artwork to the public and did so as a charter member and past president of the arts center. She always has been a participant in workshops and classes in the area and throughout the southeast.

She paints in acrylic in bold colors, with subject matter ranging from abstracts and still life to seascapes. Her trademark treatment of clouds always attracts attention. She is quick to give credit to her instructors, including Donald Sexauer, Paul Minnis, Sarah Speight and Dan Morgan.

Camnitz is a longtime member of the Community Council for the Arts and is a member of the Lenoir County Artist League. She has maintained a studio at the arts center for many years and has works for sale in the Galleria Gift Shop. She has an extensive exhibition record along with recognition for her paintings, has been juried into the annual competitive exhibition at the arts center, and has paintings in many private collections.
