CWU to hold Friendship Day service
The Kinston-Lenoir County unit of Church Women United will hold its May Friendship Day Celebration Friday at The Salvation Army, 2110 N. Queen St. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the service begins at 10 a.m. The theme is “Swinging Wide Doors of Hospitality.”
CWU has a long history of inviting women of diverse races, cultures and traditions to draw together into a Christian Fellowship. A goal of this service is to encourage attendees to reach out to faith communities that have not traditionally been part of the unit. Invite them in such a way they know the doors of hospitality are swinging wide open to each of them.
The Fellowship of the Least Coin is collected at this celebration. Women bring the offering from their church groups representing prayers that they have offered, along with their least coin, during the previous year’s meetings.
In 2012, prayers and least coins supported 12 participating ecumenical organizations, 41 women’s projects for justice and peace, and five young women scholars.
