A man wanted for stealing an SUV was arrested Thursday night after his photo was recognized by a tipster. The arrest came almost exactly a year after he committed a felony that landed him on probation.

Jaquan Marchel Koonce, 21, was arrested by members of the Kinston Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Division at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday on McAdoo Street. The arrest came after someone recognized his photo as one broadcast by area media, including The Free Press.

Koonce is alleged to have stolen a 2003 Ford Expedition from a Greenbriar Road residence Tuesday; the vehicle was recovered later the same day. KDPS officials circulated surveillance photos taken from video cameras from The Lunchbox on Martin Luther King Boulevard which led to Koonce’s arrest.

Koonce was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle; resisting, obstructing and delaying arrest; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in Lenoir County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond Thursday night and he remained behind bars this afternoon, said jail officials.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Koonce was on probation following a Dec. 19 conviction for felony financial card fraud for a crime he committed on May 3, 2012. His probation was set for 24 months for the Class I felony.
