Golfing for the heart

“Fighting heart disease, one stent at a time” is the goal for this year’s Lenoir Memorial Foundation’s superball golf tournament, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kinston Country Club, with registration and lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon.

Proceeds will go towards the expansion of the Cath Lab at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Players have the chance to win a 2013 Toyota Corolla, thanks to Massey Toyota’s hole-in-one sponsorship.

For information, contact the Foundation office at 252-522-7262 or Dirk Griffith at dgriffith@lenoir.org.

The Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2013 Pinnacle of Achievement Award, Small Business of the Year Award and the Minority Business of the Year Award. The deadline for all submissions is 5 p.m. May 13.

The Pinnacle Award recognizes an outstanding business and professional woman in the community who has accomplished extraordinary tasks and recognized the needs of her community, igniting passion in herself and others to accomplish those needs. The award captures the uniqueness of women’s experiences and wisdom.

Each nominee must live in the Kinston-Lenoir County area and be a member of the Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce.

The Small Business and Minority Business awards recognize the dedication, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

Self nominations are encouraged. Each nominee must be a member of the Chamber, have a permanent business location with employee(s) in Lenoir County, and have been in operation for a minimum of two years.

The Lenoir Community College Small Business Center Staff will choose the Microenterprise Award, sponsored by Lenoir Community College Small Business Center.

Award recipients will be notified and all awards will be presented May 23 during the Kinston Noon Rotary Club meeting, held from 1 to 2 p.m. at King’s Restaurant.
