Greene library recognizes donation

SNOW HILL — The Greene County Public Library has received a donation from James Jones and his wife Mary Jo Stevens Jones in memory of her mother, Lela T. Stevens, a former Greene County Library Board and Neuse Regional Library Board member.

In recognition of the donation, the Easy Reading Area of the recently renovated Greene County library has been named in Stevens’ memory. The donation also enabled the library to purchase an Early Literacy Workstation, a computer preloaded with bilingual educational software. These popular workstations feature a child-friendly interface to encourage its use, consequently increasing child literacy in Greene County.

Stevens was on the Greene County Library Board from 1955 until 2003, and the Neuse Regional Library Board from 1968 until 2003.

“We would like to profusely thank Mr. and Mrs. Jones for this very special contribution to the Greene County Public Library, as well as for giving us this cherished opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Mrs. Lela T. Stevens for years to come,” said Agnes W. Ho, director of libraries. “Mrs. Stevens was an integral part of both our Greene County Public Library Board and our Neuse Regional Library Board, and we are eternally grateful for her years of leadership and guidance.”

Library offers new e-magazine service

The Neuse Regional Library and RBdigital from Recorded Books are making available Zinio for Libraries, a new e-magazine service. Awarded “Best New Database of 2012” by Library Journal, Zinio is the world’s largest newsstand, offering multi-user access to thousands of publications.

Through the library’s website — neuselibrary.org — patrons of Neuse Regional Library will have unlimited simultaneous access to complete digital magazines, viewable on any Internet-enabled device inside or outside of the library.

Zinio’s technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, key word article search and interactive elements. Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, O, The Oprah Magazine and Readers Digest are some of the popular titles available.

“We are very excited to offer this new and innovative service to our patrons,” said Agnes W. Ho, director of libraries. “We have already experienced overwhelming success in offering e-book checkouts to the public in partnership with 3M. Zinio will similarly allow our patrons greater access to electronic resources.”

For more information, call 252-527-7066, ext. 134, or visit the website.
