The Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce has a new glossy magazine that online viewers can also read on the Web.
Livability: Kinston-Lenoir County magazine, published by Journal Communications in Franklin, Tenn., is a guide to the attractions and businesses in the county.
“We’re excited about Livability,” said Laura Lee Sylvester, executive director of the Chamber. “We’re happy to have a website and magazine. It is a high-end glossy magazine and also a website.”
The Chamber has featured Images magazine for the past five years, but began sponsoring Livability to provide access on the Web.
Both the magazine and website are useful promotional materials to acquaint visitors and potential residents and businesses with the county’s amenities.
The website features the magazine, as well as things to do, schools, health, life in Lenoir, businesses, photos and videos.
Sylvester said she invites local businesses to use the magazine as a resource when recruiting potential out-of-area new hires.
“This is a great way,” she said, “for them to get to know our community and all the wonderful assets that we have.”
It’s also a source of information for local residents to be reminded just why outsiders keep coming back to Lenoir County.
The magazine is published each spring. This year’s issue features CSS Neuse Interpretive Center, African-American Music Trail, Freedom Classic, agribusiness and manufacturing industries and downtown arts, entertainment and eateries.
Heritage Place, Neuseway Nature Park, Rotary Dog Park, Ironclad Motorsports, Woodmen Community Center, Veterans Home and local schools are just a few of Kinston’s featured sites.
There is even community data, such as population, mileage to major cities and the county’s economic profile with large colored graphs.
“Visit the website,” Sylvester said, “to see all the features, all the beautiful photos and engaging articles that represent our community.”
The magazine is available at the Chamber office, 301 N. Queen St.; the Kinston-Lenoir County Visitors Center, 101 E. New Bern Road; and local hotels and businesses.
Web content can be shared through email and social media. A tablet version optimized for the iPad is also available online. Access the website at livability.com/kinston/nc/magazine.
Slyvester said the Chamber will begin working on next year’s publication in November. Businesses can contact Sylvester any time of the year at 252-527-1131.
