Between Friday and Monday, gunmen shot into six cars and two apartments.

Two of the cars were occupied at the time.

The gunplay kicked off at 635 E. Lenoir Ave. Friday, when someone used a handgun on a Nissan Maxima.

“The victim said she heard shots, and that she noticed the back of her car had two holes in it,” Kinston Department of Public Safety spokesman Woody Spencer said.

The bullets resulted in a reported damage of $3,000 to the car.

It was more harrowing at the same location at 12:58 a.m. Monday. Two people were in their cars when someone took a shot at them.

“One witness said there were several black males were shooting, but nobody was recognized,” Spencer said.

The incident report lists at least four unidentified black males at the scene. The shooting caused $500 of damage to a Kia and $200 damage to a Pontiac Sunfire.

Two more incidents, timed about 20 minutes from each other, happened Sunday at 912 E. Highland Ave., Building 11. Unknown assailants shot into a Kia Optima around 4:50 p.m., and a Toyota Camry around 5:10 p.m.

Spencer said the Kia took a shot to the roof and the Camry took a hit to the windshield.

Later that night, at 9:33 p.m., an unknown suspect shot into a Chevrolet Captiva LTZ at 708 Marilyn Drive. The vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.

And Sunday, at about 8:55 p.m., an unknown person shot into two apartments at 912 E. Highland Ave., Building Six.

“She said she found a bullet hole in her apartment window,” Spencer said. “When the officer arrived, they located another hole in the kitchen wall. Then a neighbor, next door to her also found a hole in her kitchen wall.”

Damage to the apartments amounted to $150 each for the kitchen walls and $200 for the window.

Because of the lack of information on suspects, investigators marked one car shooting as closed because of exhausted leads, and two as inactive.

No one was reported injured in the shootings.
