Out of attic
Ronda Head Mangold of Kinston had a one-on-one visit with WITN TV 7’s Whitney the Hobo in April 1967, when the TV children's celebrity paid a visit to the old Woolco Store, formerly in the Kinston Plaza Shopping Center.
At the time, Ronda was a student at Teacher’s Memorial Elementary School. She now is the mother of two and works with Affordable Care at Vernon Park Mall.
Priscilla Head of Kinston submitted the photo in honor of her daughter’s birthday today.
Tasting to help give hope
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Mission Support Team is sponsoring “A Taste of Hope” at 7 p.m. Monday in the church’s Moseley Hall, 800 Rountree St. The event will include a food and wine tasting and a cooking demonstration by Chef Vivian Howard of Chef and the Farmer Progressive Eatery. The $25 tickets include the food demonstration/tasting and two glasses of wine.
All money raised will benefit mission efforts in the village of Mosovi, Dominican Republic. A St. Mary’s mission team offered Vacation Bible School last summer to children in that village, and completed some minor repairs and renovations. This year the missionaries will work toward restoring a non-functioning water source, providing educational opportunities to the children, installing additional ceiling fans in the village church, and offering Vacation Bible School.
This mission trip is possible with the help of many community members and businesses. A few tickets remain available. Call the church at 252-523-6146.

Laptops available in-house at library
The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library is making laptops available for in-house borrowing. This will allow flexible usage of the library’s computer and Internet resources for informational and educational purposes, as well as additional options for physically disabled patrons.
Laptops can only be used within the facility. Each is fully equipped with the Microsoft Office 2013 Suite, including Word, Excel and Publisher. Public printing is available from the laptops for a small fee.
The laptops were made available through a federal Library Services and Technology Act grant administered by the State Library of North Carolina. The grant also has made possible a mobile computer lab to be used at all locations of the Neuse Regional System.
For more information on laptop borrowing, call 252-527-7066, ext. 134.
