Wreck sends one to Vidant and one to Lenoir Memorial

A silver Lincoln and a Carolina Ice Company truck collided at 2:26 p.m. today on U.S. 70 East at Banks School Road, according to Sgt. G.S. Hemby of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Hemby said a witness reported that the car was traveling east on U.S. 70 and hydroplaned into the back of the truck, which was waiting on 70 East to turn left onto Banks School Road. The driver of the car, Keianna Williams, 20, of La Grange, was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The 1-year-old boy, a passenger in the car, was in an infant safety seat in the front passenger seat. He was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital to be checked, but with no obvious physical injuries.

North Lenoir Volunteer Fire Department was first to respond to the scene, assisted by the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department. The Jaws of Life were used to extract both passengers.
