It was a special Mother’s Day for dozens of recovering wounded female veterans at Fort Bragg as the Eight Eighties — also known as the Wounded Warrior Team — delivered 100 ‘Lucy’ nightgowns on May 9. The ‘Lucy,’ named after Kinston/Lenoir County Visitor’s Center Director Lucy Marston, is a longer version of the C-shirt and features the same wick-away properties that alleviate night sweats for women. Each garment is 100 percent made in America using a patented construction designed to keep wearers cool in the summer and warm in the winter. ‘Getting to see the WTB Complex was a highlight for all of us,’ said Fred Hunneke, one of three founding members of the Eight Eighties. ‘In addition to creating jobs, we want to minister to our young soldiers returning from war. All of us in the Eight Eighties served during war time, and we appreciate their service. We want these young people to feel supported.’ On hand for the Mother’s Day luncheon at Fort Bragg, were from left, Tommy Byrd, Exalted Ruler Marvin Wood, Martha Brown (modeling the Lucy), Glenn Autry and Tony Pugh. When someone purchases a C-shirt or Lucy for $20, one is put aside to give to a wounded soldier. For more information, visit woundedwarriorteam.com.
