2013 All-Free Press softball teams

KACI LETCHWORTH | North Lenoir | Sophomore | Pitcher

Kaci Letchworth gave batters in the Eastern Carolina 3A Conference fits. She had a 1.41 ERA and struck out 91 batters to only 15 earned runs allowed. She also drove in 13 runs and hit .274 and played the outfield and infield as well.

 

TAYLOR SANDLIN | South Lenoir | Senior | Pitcher

This year’s area player of the year made her senior season one to remember. With the bat she hit .380, drove in 25 runs and scored 26. In the pitching circle she went 18-1 with a 1.76 ERA in 21 starts. She struck out 52 and held opponents to a .198 average as the Blue Devils reached the regional series for the first time since Sandlin was a freshman. Sandlin also threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 win against Clinton on March 27.

 

BRIANNA WILLIAMS | South Lenoir | Sophomore | Catcher

Brianna Williams hit a team-best .439, drove in 29 runs, scored 42 and had 11 extra-base hits. She also played error-free softball for the entire season behind the plate, and had a 75 percent success rate at throwing out would-be base stealers.

 

MADISON BEYER | South Lenoir | Freshman | Infielder

Maddie Beyer was South Lenoir’s Mariano Rivera this season. The freshman went 3-3 with a 1.63 ERA and converted 14 save chances. When she wasn’t pitching the late innings she played first base, where she committed zero errors in 120 total chances. She also hit .408 with 24 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

 

MORGAN MOKUS | Greene Central | Freshman | Infielder

Morgan Mokus may have been a freshman, but she didn’t play like it. The youngster hit a blistering .469 and had an on-base percentage of .606. She also scored 20 runs.

 

ROXIE STALLINGS | North Lenoir | Sophomore | Infielder

Roxie Stallings brought power to the table for the Hawks. She led the team in average at .415, drove in 14 runs and his four home runs en route to an All-Eastern Carolina 3A Conference selection.

 

MADISON HERRING | South Lenoir | Sophomore | Infielder

Madison Herring hit .420, scored 32 runs, drove in 21 and had 11 extra-base hits. Her .480 on-base percentage was second-best among every day players and her slugging percentage led the team at .636.

 

BRIANNA CASEY | Parrott Academy | Sophomore | Outfielder

Brianna Casey did it all for Parrott this season. She hit .553 with 17 RBIs and scored 45 runs, had a slugging percentage of .750, was 27-for-27 in stolen base attempts, had a home run, committed just three errors in 118 innings and never struck out. She was also an All-Eastern Plains Independent Conference pick.

 

MORGAN MENTZ | South Lenoir | Junior | Outfielder

Morgan Mentz hit .291, had 21 RBIs and scored 31 runs. She also had nine extra-base hits, including four triples.

 

MEREDITH SANDERSON | South Lenoir | Sophomore | Outfielder

Meredith Sanderson hit .257 with 20 RBIs and scored 13 runs. She had a .964 fielding percentage, committing only six errors in a team-high 169 total chances.

 

HOLLY SUTTON | Jones Senior | Freshman | Hitter

Holly Sutton didn’t let her age show through. She hit .509, scored 24 runs and drove in 23 more for the Trojans this season. She also had 14 extra-base hits, including three triples and two home runs.
