POLLOCKSVILLE — A multi-agency license checkpoint resulted in three felony drug arrests late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Jones County Sheriff’s Office deputies, with assistance of the Maysville and Pollocksville Police Departments, set up a checkpoint in front of the Trent Motel in Pollocksville on U.S. 17 Sunday night, resulting in the three arrests.
The first arrest was made when law officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle and a subsequent search produced a felony amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol.
Cody Samuel Temple, 20, of Emerald Isle, was arrested and charged with a felony count of manufacturing marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony possession with intent to manufacture and sale marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor underage possession of alcohol. Temple’s secured bond was set at $8,500 and he was released Monday afternoon.
The second and third arrest came from a second vehicle, in which the driver and passenger of the vehicle were acting extremely nervous and deputies requested consent to search. After consent was granted, the search netted enough methamphetamine precursors that both subjects were taken into custody. The vehicle appeared to be a mobile meth lab in the making. However, it was not operational at the time.
Shawn Michael Hume, 20, of Maple Hill, was arrested and charged with felony counts of possession of meth precursors and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances. Scott Richard Lewis, 24, of Maple Hill, was arrested and charged with felony possession of meth precursors. Hume and Lewis were initially placed into the Jones County Jail under no bond.
