Scholars are sisters

Shanita Brown received a Certificate of Accomplishment Award in Teaching from N.C. State University in April.

She is in the Counselor Education Ph.D. program and is a licensed professional counselor associate. Dr. Barbi Honeycutt, director of Graduate Teaching Program, and Dr. Warwick Arden, provost and executive vice chancellor, presented the award.

Brown's sister, Karisa Brown McDaniel, a 1995 Kinston High School graduate, has completed a second degree, a Bachelor of Science in business administration, at High Point University. She and her husband Greg have a daughter, Shandi.

Shanita and Karisa are the daughters of Cora Brown of Kinston and the late Sandy E. Brown, and the granddaughters of the late Mother Cora Williams Burney.
