Post 43 rained out again

Rain may be good for nature, but it hasn’t been good for Kinston Post 43.

The local American Legion senior baseball team was rained out for the third time in three days on Wednesday when its home game with Wilson Post 13 was postponed for the second time this week.

The teams were originally scheduled to play at Viking Field on Monday, but that game was postponed to Wednesday due to rain. Post 43’s game against Pitt County Post 39 at ECU on Tuesday was also postponed.

Tuesday’s rainout has tentatively been rescheduled for July 5, Kinston manager Ronnie Battle said. A make-up date for Wednesday’s washout hasn’t been decided due to a scheduling conflict.

“We can’t find a date. When I’m open, they’ve got a game. When they’re open, we’ve got a game,” Battle said.

Weather — and field conditions — permitting, Kinston (9-5, 4-3) is scheduled to host Windsor Post 37 tonight at 7 at Viking Field.

It will make up its division game at Rocky Mount Post 58, which was rained out on June 10, on July 3.

The Area I East Division playoffs begin July 7, with the top four teams participating. Kinston is currently tied for second in the loss column with Wayne County Post 11 and Edenton Post 40. Rocky Mount has just one league loss.
