A man allegedly walked down the middle of East Caswell Street, shouting and causing a disruption while drunk, and attempted to enter a police cruiser.
According to the Kinston Department of Public Safety, an officer noticed Ellis James Smith, 48, walking down the 900 block of East Caswell Street at around 11 p.m. Thursday, and asked if he was OK.
“The suspect kind of hollered at him and asked who the police officer was,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said. “The officer told him who he was, and asked him once again what his name was, and he, again, asked the police officer what his name was, and that (the officer) was supposed to take (the subject) with him.”
The officer, smelling an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Smith, arrested him and took him to the Lenoir County Detention Center where Smith was booked on a charge of being drunk and disruptive. He was given a $100 bond.
