SNOW HILL — Greene County officials are in the process of compiling information to send to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The department started an investigation on the county’s Emergency Medical Services on May 31, possibly following a complaint.

Representatives have visited the county manager’s office twice since the investigation began, but Interim County Manager Richard Hicks said he hasn’t been told what the investigation is concerns.

“It’s still open,” he said, “and they’re still asking for information. They gave us two weeks to get that information back to them.”

Hicks and Finance Officer Sandy Barss said they were told by the DOL representatives not to discuss anything about the investigation.

DOL investigator, Zulma Rivera Toler of the New Bern office; a second investigator; Emergency Management Director Randy Skinner; and Sandra Harrell, an accounting tech; Hicks; and Barss met on June 24 and again on Wednesday.

The investigation, conducted by the Wage and Hour Division, will cover a two-year period from the last completed payroll.

The county is required to submit records and other information, including a list of current and former employees, position titles and duties and original payroll and time records. They were given a deadline of three to four weeks.

Barss said she could not say whether the county is being asked to submit additional information.
