A man, less than a month out of jail, may be on his way back.

According to a report from the Kinston Department of Public Safety, officers arrested Antonio Fields, 51, for common law robbery shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday.

“Basically, an individual was approached, there was some sort of physical item that was used — I cannot confirm what that is at this time — and (Fields) took the person’s money from him,” KDPS Cmdr. Rick Harrell said. “So, we responded to that. I believe the individual was able to give us enough information so that we could develop a suspect, and we were able to effect an arrest of Mr. Fields.”

Fields allegedly made off with two $100 bills and $10 worth of quarters. The arrest report states he was intoxicated at the time. He entered the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $50,300 bond.

Information from the state Department of Public Safety shows Fields spent Dec. 7, 2009 to Aug. 23, 2012 on a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He returned to prison for violating a post-release order and remained behind bars from Dec. 4, 2012 to June 9.

Fields’ publicly-available record goes back to 1978, with multiple prison terms, including for manslaughter from July 1989 to February 1996.
