Credit union names new CEO
Greater Kinston Credit Union’s Board of Directors has announced the naming of Shawn Wilson as manager/CEO of the GKCU, effective Aug. 1. Wilson has been serving as interim manager of the Kinston branch since February.
In his new position, Wilson will oversee the financial direction of the not-for-profit cooperative with assets of more than $10 million, as well as manage personnel and the branch’s day-to-day activities. His responsibilities will include ongoing development and enhancement of the credit union’s full-service offering of member products and services. He also will focus on creating future growth opportunities to better serve members and potential members with greater convenience and accessibility throughout Lenoir, Greene, Craven, Pitt and Jones counties.
A native of the Kinston area, Wilson has strong ties to the credit union community — becoming a member of GKCU at the age of 8 and working in the credit union industry for the past five years. He is a graduate of Mount Olive College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in management organizational development.
“Shawn brings new energy and enthusiasm to the organization,” said Sid Phillips, chairman of the GKCU board. “His commitment and desire to be a servant leader and revitalize the credit union’s involvement in his hometown and community base will further strengthen our efforts in doing what we do best — helping people.”
The GKCU has been committed to meeting the financial needs of its members since 1952. In addition to its members who work or live in Lenoir, Greene, Jones, Craven and Pitt counties, it also provides services such as fiduciary and guardianship for the disabled (military and non-military).
