Youth top adults in turkey competition
The Lenoir County Hunters Association held its monthly meeting June 13, at which it recognized winners in the turkey competition. In total scoring, the youth surpassed the adults.
In another topic of business, the group discussed the annual Duplin-Onslow Hunters Association and Lenoir County Hunters Association fall fundraiser and distribution of tickets to be sold. The event will be Oct. 5 at the Duplin Events Center in Kenansville. A $25 ticket entitles the holder to one barbecue dinner and chances for prizes. The grand prize is $5,000; other cash prizes totaling $10,000; and 30 individual guns. Door prizes also will be given away.
Dinner serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the drawing will start at 7 p.m. Winners do not have to be present. Tickets are available through any association member. For more information, call 252-523-6721.
Library offers in-house laptop use
The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library is pleased has made laptops available for in-house borrowing. This will allow flexible usage of the library’s computer and Internet resources for informational and educational purposes, as well as additional options for physically disabled patrons.
Laptops can only be used within the facility. Each laptop is fully equipped with the Microsoft Office 2013 Suite, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Publisher. Public printing is available from the laptops for a modest fee.
The laptops were made available through a federal Library Services and Technology Act grant administered by the State Library of North Carolina. The grant also has made possible a mobile computer lab that will be used at all Neuse Regional Library System branches.
“We are excited to be able to present these laptops to the public in partnership with the State Library through the Library Services and Technology Act,” said Agnes W. Ho, director of libraries. “Patrons who visit our library now have even more options and flexibility in accessing online information.”
For more information on laptop borrowing, call 252-527-7066, ext. 134.
