Sheriff's deputies have shot and killed an armed robbery suspect after a chase ended in Wilson County.
Deputies say the man was a suspect in two robberies and a carjacking in Smithfield early Sunday.
Deputies say the shooting happened as the chase ended on N.C. Highway 42 near Interstate 95 in Wilson County. Wilson and Johnston County deputies fired at the man after he crashed into a deputy's car.
The man was taken to the Wilson Medical Center and later died. His name has not been released.
At least three police cars were damaged, including two from the Selma Police Department. Wilson police officers took part in the chase along with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Authorities closed the I-95 interchange at N.C. Highway 42 for hours as the wreck and shooting were investigated.
There was no immediate word of injuries to any officers.
The State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting. The agency has not released details.
