Patrick Hill, 73, died Sunday and was laid to rest Friday at Southview Cemetery following a funeral service at Swinson Funeral Home. His niece, Gwendolyn Woods, left her job as a caregiver at the Spring Arbor assisted living facility to take care of him following allegations he was abused at the O’Berry Neuro-Medical Center in Goldsboro. Hill came to live at her home in November, and the next month a civil suit was filed regarding the allegations. He was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder in January and, in June, Woods said her uncle stopped eating solid food, so he had to be connected to a feeding tube. Hill needed regular care throughout his life because polio and pneumonia contracted as a child left him physically disabled and with the mental development of a 4-year-old. The O’Berry Center dismissed a man believed to be involved in an assault on Hill.
