Superior court decisions

The following decisions were reached in Lenoir County superior court in May, 2013. The presiding judge was the Hon. Paul L. Jones. Matters may be resolved as the result of a guilty plea or dismissal negotiated with the district attorney without a trial. Matters may also be resolved as the result of a trial during which the judge dismisses the case for insufficient evidence or renders a verdict of innocence or guilt. In any case in which a guilty plea or verdict is entered, sentencing is determined by the judge:
 
Shonice Whitfield, three counts embezzlement, sentenced to three consecutive sentences of 5-15 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Tylisha Bell, drug paraphernalia, guilty, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 12 months supervised probation.
 
Keesha Cobb, larceny, guilty, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 12 months supervised probation.
 
Shakria Cabrera, breaking/entering, guilty, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 12 months supervised probation. 
 
Wanda Crawford, larceny by employee, pleaded not guilty, sentenced to 6-8 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Lacey Daw, drug paraphernalia, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 120 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 18 months supervised probation.
 
Thomas Griffin, drug paraphernalia, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 120 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 18 months supervised probation. 
 
Donald Fikes, drug paraphernalia, guilty, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to six months supervised probation.
 
Kevin NMN Dawson, cruelty to animals, guilty, issued prayer for judgment pending report on Aug. 5.
Joseph Baron Jr., drug paraphernalia, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 120 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 18 months supervised probation.
 
Curby Outlaw Jr., breaking/entering, guilty, sentenced to 12-24 months in the Dept. of Correction.
 
Lucia Aviles, driving while license revoked, guilty, sentenced to 75 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to six months supervised probation.
 
Chasity Yancey, possess schedule II, guilty, sentenced to 5-15 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 24 months supervised probation.
 
Joshua Dudley, possess drug paraphernalia, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 120 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 12 months probation.
 
Rakeem Barrett, possess cocaine, guilty, sentenced to 6-17 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 24 months supervised probation.
 
Shalonda Stubbs, injury to personal property, guilty, sentenced to six months unsupervised probation.
Zephaniah Nicholson, breaking/entering, guilty, sentenced to 5-15 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Lauren Grady, possess drug paraphernalia, guilty, sentenced to 90-96 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to six months supervised probation.
 
Erick Harris, sex offender accessing social website, guilty, sentenced to 6-17 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Hobson Hussey, drug paraphernalia, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to six months supervised probation.
 
Rodney Ormond, larceny, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 6-17 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Asina Newborn, breaking/entering, communicating threats, guilty, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 12 months supervised probation.
 
Novatni Nicholson, breaking/entering, guilty, sentencedto 6-17 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Matthew Denton, driving while impaired level one, prior within seven years, guilty, sentenced to 24 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 24 months supervised probation.
 
Trevon Jones, attempt to possess stolen firearem, guilty, sentenced to 8-19 months in the Dept. of Correction.
 
Billy Jo Ray, possess controlled substance/schedule II, guity, sentenced to 5-15 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 24 months supervised probation.
 
Maurice Forman, breaking/entering, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 8-19 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation.
 
Scotty Chase, larceny, guilty, sentenced to 120 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 18 months supervised probation.
 
Edron Finch, two counts breaking/entering, guilty, sentenced to 15-27 months in the Dept. of Correction.
Kyron William, three counts larceny, guilty, sentenced to 45 days in the Lenoir County jail, suspended to 18 months supervised probation.
 
Charles Clarke, second degree murder, guilty, defendant read letter of apology, sentenced to 148-187 months in the Dept. of Correction, mental health testing and treatment.
 
Landon Allcox, breaking/entering, larceny of firearm, guilty, sentenced to 6-17 months in the Dept. of Correction, suspended to 36 months supervised probation, GED within 12 months.
 
Christopher Morris, larceny, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 120 days in the Dept. of Correction.
 
Roy Newborn, drug paraphernalia, pleaded no contest, sentenced to 15 days in the Lenoir County jail.
 
Benjamin Cheston, one count felony breaking/entering, two counts misdemeanor breaking/entering, guilty, sentenced to 6-17 months in the Dept. of Correction (consecutive).
