Lenoir County residents have one more chance to have their historic photos of Kinston and Lenoir County used in a hardcover coffee table book.
At a final session on Sunday, The Free Press, the Lenoir County Historical Association and Pediment Publishing are asking readers of the newspaper to bring their old photos to be scanned to potentially be used in a book that chronicles the pictorial history of the county from the 1860s through 1939.
The book is tentatively scheduled to go on sale to the public later this year, probably in November, said Free Press Advertising Director Matt Holbrook.
Pediment Publishing’s Brian Lupton and John Shields, a customer service distribution coordinator with the company, will be in Kinston from 12-3 p.m. on Sunday to scan photos from readers. They’ll be at the Fireman’s Museum, 118 S. Queen St., to greet readers and those who are interested in seeing their photos in the historic book.
Lupton and Shields are looking for actual photographs or postcards, not newspaper clippings or photocopies. They’re asking the photos be taken from the 1860-1939 period and that they be taken of street scenes, businesses and industry, not necessarily people posing in front of the camera — although those are certainly acceptable, too.
Also, if you plan to come to the scanning sessions, Lupton and Shields asked that donators visit lenoirco.pictorialbook.com to download and print caption forms.
There is a limit of 10 photos per family to be scanned; Shields said if a family brings in at least five photos, at least one will make the book.
