Church presents scholarships

Greg Cauley recently presented the Inaugural Jim and Rena Cauley Memorial 902 Church Scholarship.

Recipients are Matthew Edwards and Charlie Ann Wetherington. Edwards is the son of James and Meredith Edwards of Kinston. He will attend ECU. Wetherington is the daughter of Charles and Michelle Wetherington of Kinston and will attend UNC Wilmington.

902 Church meets at 10 a.m. Sundays at 2009 Carey Road.

 

FSU alumni to host Bronco send off

The Kinston-Lenoir Alumni Chapter for Fayetteville State University will be hosting its annual Bronco send-off cookout for freshmen and current undergraduate students who will be attending FSU this academic year, 2013-2014.

The event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10 at the home of Bronco Denderant Burney, 503 Darby Ave., Kinston. All Lenoir or Greene County students and their parents, along with alumni members, are welcome to attend. All students will receive a dorm package for attending. This event is for new and returning students with their parents to network with alumni members.

Humphrey reappointed to tourism board 

Chris Humphrey of Kinston has been reappointed to a two-year term on the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board. Humphrey has served on the board since September 2011. His current two-year term will expire in December of 2014.

Humphrey owns Allstate Insurance agencies in Kinston and Goldsboro, and ERA Humphrey Realty Group in Kinston.

Created by North Carolina General Statute in 1991, the board advocates the sound development of the travel and tourism industry in North Carolina and advises the Secretary of Commerce on policy matters related to tourism promotion in North Carolina.

The board’s next meeting is set for Tuesday in Raleigh. Fore more information, call Humphrey at 252-361-5300.

 

Market welcomes new vendors

Today the Lenoir County Farmer’s Market will welcome Melanie Quinn of Inner Banks Seafood, Leraine Tolston from Queen Street Deli and the Tyndall Family.

Inner Banks Seafood will have fresh flounder filets and medium, large and jumbo shrimp. Queen Street Deli will bring Ezekiel and multi-grain breads, whole grain cookies, chicken pot pies, vegetable chicken pot pies, sweet potato chicken pot pies, cream cheese potato salad, broccoli salad and salted caramel chocolate chip blondies. The Tyndall Family will have their beautiful sunflowers.

Of course, the “old reliables” — Porter Farm, TC Smith Produce, Bruce Coley, Bill Tilghman, Putnam Family Farm and Upham Homestead — will bring fresh eggs, produce and fruit.
