A fire, which started around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, severely damaged a house on 104 Park Ave.

Although the structure hasn’t collapsed, flames covered the roof of the house and did extensive damage before the blaze could be extinguished. Bill Johnson, Director of Kinston Department of Public Safety, said the structure was fully involved when the fire trucks arrived.

“The crews responded, and we received assistance from Hugo and Southwood Volunteer Fire Departments,” Johnson said. “With the amount of fire we had the structure was heavily damaged. There was no power to the structure and no one was there at the time. We maintained possession of the structure to do an investigation.”

As of now, there are no theories on what caused the fire. The occupants of the house have been relocated to West Park Inn by the Red Cross.
