Greg Whitfield of Seven Springs sells watermelons along Vernon Avenue in Kinston on Wednesday. For 21 years, he has been selling produced; this being the 11th year near the Herritage Street and Vernon Avenue intersection. "On a good day, I'll seel about 100 watermelons, which is pretty much all that will fit in my van," Whitfield said. As summer and autumn wind down, Whitfield turns to sweet potatoes and collard greens for his sales. No matter the season, he sells at the same spot all day long, or on good days, until he sells out.
