SHINE — A Goldsboro woman allegedly tried to flee from a detective following a drug deal in front of the Dollar General on Thursday.
At about 11 p.m., Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputies watched as a woman sold drugs out of her car two parking spaces away, Detective Charles Boyette said.
By the time she was heading out of the parking lot, Boyette turned on the blue lights and siren. When the suspect took off, she didn’t stop at the stop sign at Shine Road but turned onto U.S. 13, Boyette said. She then sped up to about 70 miles per hour in a 55-miles-per-hour zone heading towards Goldsboro, he said.
“I had to actually get in front of her to get her to stop,” Boyette said.
But before that happened, the detective said he saw her throw something out of the window twice. Later, he found a $50 bill on U.S. 13 near where she had turned from Shines Crossroads.
Boyette and his assistant, Deputy Travis Cunningham, allegedly found .01 grams of crack cocaine on the driver’s seat and on the backseat floorboard where it appeared the second toss out the window had actually blown back into the car, Boyette said.
They also allegedly found some marijuana in the woman’s purse. A total of 8.4 grams of marijuana were seized.
Geneva Delores Phillips, 25, of 131 Woodside Circle, Goldsboro, was charged with maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, alter/steal/destroy criminal evidence and flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle.
She was placed under a $40,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Greene County District Court on Aug. 30.
Phillips has a number of pending charges, including drug charges, in Greene and Wayne counties, Boyette said.
