Lenoir County caught smiling

The Lenoir County Smiles program is in its eighth year recognizing quality customer service. Beginning in 2006 to foster “good, friendly service with a Smile,” it is sponsored by Lenoir County Tourism and The Free Press.

This week’s winner is “Smitty” Smith, receptionist-transcriptionist with Cardiopulmonary Services at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. The winners are recommended by the community, receive a small gift and are pictured in the Sunday edition of The Free Press, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Ways to honor Hunneke

Fred A. Hunneke died Aug. 9, and many in the community have requested addresses for mailing memorial donations to organizations listed in his obituary that ran Aug. 13 in The Free Press.

For Wounded Warrior Team, make a check payable to Eight/Eighties Wounded Warrior Team, Inc. Mail to Wounded Warrior Team, P.O. Box 3548, Kinston, NC 28502.

For First Presbyterian Church, make checks payable to First Presbyterian Church, with Hunneke memorial on memo line, and mail to the church at 2101 N. Herritage St., Kinston, NC 28501.

To donate to Lenoir Memorial Hospital Foundation, make checks payable to the Lenoir Memorial Hospital Foundation and mail to the Foundation, Attention Dirk Griffith, Director, 100 Airport Road, Kinston, NC, 28503-1678.

 

‘Medicare 101’ session set for Wednesday

PINK HILL — A “Medicare 101” session sponsored by the Seniors Health Insurance Information Program will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pink Hill Wellness Center. This informational session will focus on people new to Medicare who recently have turned 65 or who will be turning 65 in the near future. The event is open to all.

SHIIP, a division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance, provides information about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage and Health Plan Options and long term care insurance through its toll free line, 800-443-9354. SHIIP also has volunteers in every county in North Carolina who are available for counseling sessions.
