A man suspected in the molestation of his great-grandchildren was taken into custody Friday.
James Floyd Current, 86, had been visiting Kinston from his home in Pilot Hill, Calif., when the incident allegedly occurred. He was staying at a residence in Fayetteville when police apprehended him.
“We got warrants for sexual assault and contacted the Fayetteville Police Department and advised them of the warrants,” said Woody Spencer, spokesman for the Kinston Department of Public Safety. “They placed him in custody and transported him to Cumberland County Jail, where we sent officers to pick him up last Friday to bring him back to Kinston for processing.”
Current was placed in the Lenoir County Detention Center on $200,000 bond. He made his first appearance in Lenoir County District Court on Monday.
Current’s charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.
