Lenoir County smiles again
Lenoir County Smiles is a customer service recognition program sponsored by Lenoir County Tourism and The Free Press. This week’s winner is Kenneth “Kenny” Taylor, a medical technologist with Spring Arbor who has received the Hero Award and several Caregiver of the Year awards, along with the Statewide Caregiver of the Year Award for 2010.
Lenoir County Smiles weekly winners are chosen by recommendations from the community, receive a small gift and are pictured in the Sunday edition of The Free Press, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This is the eighth year of the program, which began in 2006 to foster “good, friendly service with a Smile.”
To nominate someone, contact Marston at the Kinston-Lenoir County Visitor’s and Information Center, 252-522-0004 or lenoircountytourism@suddenlinkmail.com.
Help ‘fill the boot’ for MDA
Kinston firefighters will be out on the streets Friday, Saturday and Sept. 1 asking motorists to help “Fill the Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They will be at Walmart and at the Piggly Wiggly on Herritage Street.
Every dollar passing motorists pitch into the firefighters’ boots helps provide medical treatment and support services to individuals and their families living with neuromuscular diseases in the community. The funds are used for health care services and equipment support, and to help send children to free MDA summer camps.
“Fill the Boot” funds also are used to support some of the 300 worldwide research projects seeking better treatments and cures for the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and ALS.
