North Carolina investigators have determined a Hendersonville funeral home misplaced bodies and the cremated ashes of some people.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reported the ashes of some people were substituted for others. Some remains were found weeks later in an impounded car.
State investigators say South Park and its officials either failed to return or failed to document the return of the cremated remains of at least 26 people. Some pre-payments for burials were misappropriated.
South Park owner Richard Jarrett Mosley is charged with forgery and writing checks on a closed account. Mosley faces 22 counts in Henderson County and 14 counts of bank fraud or obtaining property by false pretenses in Spartanburg County, S.C.
The findings are in a consent order by the state Board of Funeral Service.
