FSU Alumni Chapter awards scholarships
The Kinston-Lenoir Alumni Chapter for Fayetteville State University recently awarded academic scholarships to three area high school graduates who have exhibited excellence in academics, leadership, extracurricular activities, community service and a potential for future success.
Graduates submitted applications during their spring school year and each recipient received an award letter during Senior Awards Day ceremonies at their high schools from Tezra P. Egleton, Henry Dove and Nan Kirkman.
The 2013 scholarship recipients are Braxton Davis, Brittany S. Koonce and Shaquana M. Outlaw. A North Lenoir High School graduate, Davis is the son of Timothy and Shelia Davis of La Grange and is majoring in physical education.
Koonce, the daughter of Terry Koonce and Sanya Mitchell of Deep Run, is a South Lenoir High School graduate and is majoring in social work. Outlaw, daughter of Betty Outlaw of Kinston, is a Kinston High School graduate and is majoring in nursing.
Koonce and Outlaw were among freshmen to participate in the Honors and Cheer Program this summer, which prepares high ability students for the undergraduate school experience through courses and activities that focus on academic preparation and cultural enrichment, while building character and leadership development.
