Hill wins national volunteer award

Kinston native Kendall Hill was recognized for his efforts in agriculture when he was presented with a Volunteer Service Award. Hill received the award at the annual National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association conference this summer.

According to the NAADA, the award is presented to an individual who has given freely of their time to further the goals of their institution, and has demonstrated the skills to encourage others to further the success of their alma mater’s agriculture and alumni programs.

“It’s a great honor,” Hill said.

Hill is a 1962 graduate of the N.C. State Department of Horticultural Science. He is also the co-owner of Kinston-based Tull Hill Farms, an operation producing a variety of crops on more than 4,500 acres.

Hill remains active in N.C. State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He spends time on field days, on-farm field trials and provides input for the direction of the college’s research and extension programs.

He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the N.C. Agricultural Foundation among several other posts. In the past he has served on board of the N.C. Sweet Potato Commission, including four terms as president.

Richard Linton, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, spoke highly of Hill and his achievements.

“I have discovered that Kendall Hill does not know the meaning of the word ‘no.’ He never turns down a call to action from his alma mater,” Linton said. “He has a determined and loyal spirit, and we are very grateful for his outstanding service.”
