A man arrested in Kinston on Aug. 27 was wanted in Greene County on charges related to a July break-in.
Darrin Laroche Smith, 28, of Snow Hill, was placed into the Greene County Jail on a $27,500 bond. Greene County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Daniel Hawkins said Smith and accomplices broke into a residence and stole a checkbook, and later went to cash one of the checks at a bank.
Smith faces charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, receiving stolen goods, forgery, uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property under false pretense.
He served June 5-27 in state prison for violating probation related to a conviction on driving while license revoked.
Smith is due in Greene County District Court today and in Lenoir County District Court on Wednesday for an unrelated charge of conspiracy to obtain property under false pretense.
