SNOW HILL --- The Rams walked away with their heads held high as Farmville Central downed them, 3-0, Wednesday

While Greene Central (0-6) hung in the game, they were playing a very lenient Jaguars team.  After Farmville Central won the first set, they settled before winning 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 on the Rams’ floor.

“We clicked well in the first game and then we got really lax the second game,” Jaguars coach Michelle Pitt said. “They just get real comfortable after winning the first set. They think they’re going to breeze through, and I have to just stay on them and push them to concentrate.”

After the Set 1 win, the Rams were able to respond to Panthers attacks with solid defense. Farmville Central (8-1) has a pair of strong hitters in sisters Alyssa and Courtney Pitt, who rested Wednesday as area teams prepare for conference matchups.

Greene Central coach James Campbell said most of its conference teams have big players who can jump and attack, so the Rams have to be ready. He said the team’s timing was off Wednesday and they can’t handle many outside hits, but they’re strong on defense and in serving.

“I trust them all serving,” he said. “We have scrappiness, but it comes and goes.”

The Rams had a chance to steal a win in Set 2 when the girls started clicking. They tallied more digs and kills than in the other two games. Both teams stopped scoring on the other, while errors accounted for points.

Greene Central had 10 total kills in the game, while Farmville had five more with 15. Alyssa Pitt led all with six kills. Rams Sarah Carter and Rebecca Webb led their team defensively with seven digs apiece.

The Rams head to Ayden-Grifton today for their first conference matchup, and Campbell hopes his team will be ready.

“The frustration is because, honestly, they played better than they think they did,” he said about the loss to Farmville. “They don’t have that confidence against stronger teams.”
