Thieves hit a City of Kinston power station sometime between Sept. 4 and Tuesday, police discovered.

City officials reported the incident at Falling Creek Substation No. 6 to the Kinston Department of Public Safety late Tuesday morning.

“They discovered someone had cut several copper grounding wires that protect the chain-link fence and the substation regulators,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said.

Spencer added that city workers at the scene weren’t able to give an estimate as to the damage.

The case remains under investigation and the suspects are unknown at this time.

Possible charges include burglary by forcible entry and trespassing.
