Forty-six Parrott students earn AP Scholar Awards

Forty-six Arendell Parrott Academy students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams, with two achieving national ranking. In May, 110 Parrott students took 232 examinations with 79 percent receiving a grade of 3 or higher on one or more exams. Worldwide, 60.8 percent of the 2.2 million AP students scored a 3 or higher.  In North Carolina, 63.4 percent of AP students scored a grade of 3 or higher.

Two alumnae, Logan Beyer and Amanda Cannon, were named National AP Scholars.  Beyer is attending Duke University as a B.N. Duke Scholar, and Cannon is attending N.C. State University as a Park Scholar.

Fifteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. This group includes seniors William Archie, Tripp Combs and Natalie Shammas. Parrott graduates Sarah Albritton (Meredith College), Taylor Baisey (UNC), Hadley Bryan (N.C. State), Jordan Finizio (College of William & Mary), Tori Gunsten (Wake Forest University), Seung Lee (Columbia), Mary Scott Manning (Davidson), Lucy Manning (UNC), Melanie Ng (University of South Carolina), Jackson Perry (Furman University), Tara Pilato (University of Notre Dame) and Summer Taylor (Elon University) also qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award.

Fourteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. This group includes Parrott seniors Olivia Holder, Forest Kriss, Regan Lane, Ridge Mazingo, Victoria Oakley, Jackie Pilato, Perry Rudolph, Claire Tucker, Conor Whitlark and Devin Whitlark.  Parrott graduates Gus Bardill (University of Mississippi), Brooke Tyndall (N.C. State), Jana Warren (N.C. State) and Andrew Willis (UNC Charlotte) also qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award.

Fifteen qualified for the AP Scholar Award, completing three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher. This group includes seniors Caleb Griffin, Lee Jenkins, Leigh Murphy and Anna Sale. Parrott graduates Holden Arthur (University of Georgia), Madison Day (ECU), Dale Delaney (UNC Wilmington), Sara Fallin (N.C. State), Samantha Jimenez-Zamudio (ECU), Kimia Movahed (UNC), Henry Piner (N.C. State), Jack Sides (High Point University), Ryan Smith (UNC Wilmington), Stephen Smith (N.C. State) and non-graduating alumnus Dakota Wilkerson who now attends high school in Wake County also qualified for the AP Scholar Award.

Parrott currently offers 13 AP courses, including English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Statistics, Calculus AB, Psychology, World History, US History, Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Physics B, US Government and Politics, and Studio Art.

All Parrott students who enroll in an Advanced Placement course are required to sit for the AP exam.
