Drinking, dinner argument leads to stabbing

An argument over drinks while cooking dinner turned violent when a woman allegedly stabbed a man in the back Sept. 12.

“The suspect told officers that (the victim) was at her residence — (he was) cooking dinner with her and her boyfriend,” Kinston Department of Public Safety spokesman Woody Spencer said. “(Shana) Hopper stated that she and (the victim) began to argue about the cooking. That’s when Ms. Hopper (allegedly) stabbed (the victim) in the back.”

The victim was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to the back of his left shoulder. Hopper, 41, could have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but the 44-year-old victim declined prosecution.

Both the suspect and the victim have served time in state prison.

“She was later charged with filing a false police report, so that’s as far as it went,” Spencer said. “They were both intoxicated. That’s what you get when you drink too much.”

Once law enforcement arrived on the scene in the 600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Hopper allegedly gave different accounts of the incident to different officers. She was charged with filing a false report, a misdemeanor, Friday morning.
