The Young Woman’s Outreach Center and PEACE Foundation are teaming up to encourage family communication at the Community Family Affair on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Brenda McLamore, community outreach specialist for YWOC, said October has been nationally designated as “Let’s Talk month.” She said the festival is designed to help bring families together at a time when it
“It’s about getting families to talk,” McLamore said. “We are hoping this will bridge the communication gap.”
The day will start with a parade at 10 a.m. that will begin on Atlantic Avenue before making its way to Pearson Park.
The fair will last from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and include a wide variety of activities, games and shows.
Food vendors will be on hand serving up a wide selection of foods for sale, McLamore said. The menu ranges from hot dogs and barbeque to snow cones.
McLamore said the activities will be those of a typical fair, such as a dunk tank, face painting, a talent show and best dressed dog contest.
Entertainment will be performing on the stage throughout the day, McLamore said. A comedian and magician will be on hand, along with various musical groups.
There will be different vendors with tables set up, including the Boy Scouts, LCC and various churches, McLamore said. There will also be a free health screening.
Shannon Ruiz, director of PEACE, said there has been a good turnout in previous years and hopes for another successful year.
