There’s one more stolen gun on the streets of Kinston.
Just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old woman checked on a friend’s house at 2107 Old Snow Hill Road, according to a Kinston Department of Public Safety report.
Then she was robbed.
“The victim was at that residence, checking the residence, when she was approached by an unknown suspect who reached into her vehicle and took the computer, some cash and a 9-mm pistol, and fled north,” KDPS spokesman Woody Spencer said.
The gun, a Kel Tec PF-9, is a semiautomatic chambered for a 9-mm Lugar cartridge and designed for maximum “concealability,” according to the company website. It contains a single-stack, seven-round magazine.
The alleged thief also made off with a Google Nexus tablet and $250 in cash — a reported haul of $798.95.
The victim reported the serial number of the weapon, which will make it easier for law enforcement to track and seize the gun when or if it’s used in connection with a crime. Trying to remove a firearm’s serial number comes with its own criminal penalties.
“First thing we do is, if it all possible, if the person who the gun was stolen from has the serial number, that is placed in NCIC, which is the National Crime Information Center,” Spencer said. “Any time anybody comes across a weapon, they call the serial number into the communications center, and they run it through that. If it comes up a hit, then the person has the stolen weapon.”
The case remains under investigation.
