Area restaurant ratings

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

BJ's Grill

7823 U.S. 70 West, La Grange

Inspection date: 9-5

Score: 93

Observations: 

A certified food protection manager must be on site during food prep hours

Cook handles raw beef to throw on grill, then touches ready to eat buns without washing hands

Need to date mark ready to eat potentially hazardous foods that will be kept in refrigerator more than 24 hours

Buckets of sanitizer need to be labeled

Food employees shall not wear jewelry on hands or wrists

Effective hair restraint required

Once wiping cloths are dampened, you cannot leave out on counters

Square cornered sink in pit building no longer approved

Water hose with pistol grip spray nozzle attached on faucet outside (can wash); need approved backflow preventer where hose is attached

 

Sutton's Grill

113 S. Caswell St., La Grange

Inspection date: 9-5

Score: 96.5

Observations: 

A certified food protection manager must be on site during food prep hours

Need to date mark milk, shredded cheese when you open the package and keep in refrigerator more than 24 hours

One Ziploc-type bag in walk-in cooler holding flour or breader? Need to label this bag

Any cloth once dampened must be stored in bucket of proper strength sanitizer

Dish machine seems to need a new pressure gauge

Outdoor surface for dumpster should be nonabsorbent material such as concrete or asphalt

Some wear and tear/not easily cleanable areas

Some general cleaning needed

 

Christopher's

217 N. Queen Street, Kinston

Inspection date: 9-5

Score: 90

Observations:

I am leaving handwashing signs with you; post these at handwashing sinks

Couple of chubs of raw ground beef above country ham packages

Prep fridge holding at 50-51F; potentially hazardous foods moved to reach-in refrigerator

Ready to eat items that will be held in refrigerator more than 24 hours must be date marked

Chicken salad and another item in refrigerator were below 41F but had been prepped on Aug. 15. These items cannot be held for more than seven days

Need to label buckets of sanitizer

Salt and pepper buckets need to be labeled

Several roaches seen today

Main kitchen staff are adhering to no jewelry policy; waitstaff must observe this rule as well if they are helping plate food

Wiping cloths cannot be left on counters after dampened

Glass door/square cornered refrigerator no longer approved

Need chloring test strips

Cabinets in back need some cleaning

Make sure you have a trash receptacle at every hand sink

Some bad repair spots....no longer cleanable

 

Byrd's Restaurant

196 N.C. 58 S., Kinston

Inspection date: 8-9

Score: 98.5

Observations:

No certified food protetcion manager on site

Raw bacon stored over cooked and ready to eat food

Date marking is good; just remember freezing stops the clock

Core, dry ingredients in container that is not labelled

Core food employeees may not wear jewelry
