Man arrested for robbery, found with marijuana

An altercation involving a stolen mobile phone led police to arrest a suspect who allegedly had a felonious amount of marijuana on him.

The alleged robbery took place in the 800 block of East King Street on Nov. 8, shortly before 4 p.m.

“(The victim) told officers he was walking home and Raymond Dove came up to him and said, ‘Give me your money,’” said Woody Spencer, spokesman for the Kinston Department of Public Safety. “He said he wouldn’t give it to him, so Mr. Dove punched him in the face and went to the front-right pocket and took his cell phone. So, there were warrants issued for that crime.”

At about 5:33 p.m. Thursday, officers went to execute the warrants in the 800 block of East Bright Street, where they allegedly discovered Dove had eight individually wrapped bags of marijuana in a coat pocket.

Dove, 17, was charged with felony common law robbery and felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and booked under a $20,000 bond – $3,000 for the weed and $17,000 for the robbery charge.

He’s due in Lenoir County District Court on Monday.
