Mary's Market is Monday / Names in news

From left, Susan Grady and Sarah Weeks prepare lunch for Mary's Market. The event, a holiday market sponsored by St. Mary's Episcopal Church, will be held on Monday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree Street. A Brunswick stew lunch will be served for $10. Plenty of frozen items and baked goods — perfect for holiday meals — will be available for purchase. A silent auction and a 50/50 raffle will also take place during the event. All monies raised at Mary's Market go to support outreach programs sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW).  These activities include support for Mary's Soup Kitchen, ICOR, backpack buddies, The Gate, migrant farm worker mission, need-based scholarships to Camp Trinity, and the Foster Children's Christmas Program.

 

Veterans honored at Airy Grove

 

Airy Grove Christian Church celebrated Veterans Day honoring its members who have put their life on the line. Each veteran was recognized with their rank, station and years served. ‘Words of Thanks’ were presented by Bonnie Killingsworth followed by a quiet moment for those veterans no longer with us. Displayed on stage were articles of clothing worn by our veterans while serving for our country. The ceremony was closed in prayer for all veterans who have and are serving our country defending America's freedom. From left, Bill McDaniel, Randall Sullivan, Ralph Taylor, Charlie Hall and Bobby Taylor were some of the veterans honored in the ceremony.

 

Beaujolais Nouveau is tonight

 

The uncorking of the “New Red Wine of the Season,” Beaujolais Nouveau, will be held tonight at Harmony Hall. With similar events taking place all over the world, the uncorking will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. today.

The Honorary Consul of France, Marie-Claire Ribeill will take part in the event.

Admission is $10 for the event; wine can be purchased to take home at $15 per bottle. For more information, call 252-522-0421 or 252-560-4800.

 

Young Professionals plan trip to Mike’s Farm

 

The Young Professionals of Lenoir County are taking a trip to Mike’s Farm, 1600 Haw Branch Road, Beulaville, Saturday night. Dinner will be eaten at 6 p.m.; a hayride will take place immediately afterward.

The event is $15 for adults, plus tax. Children under 2 participate for free; it’s $4.99 for children 3-6 years and $7.99 for children 7-11.
