Residents in Greene, Jones and Lenoir counties have the opportunity to let their voices be heard about the quality of their local library by filling out a survey produced by Neuse Regional Library System.
Justin Stout, reference librarian and grant specialist at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library, said the library system is doing the survey along with a consultant as part of the system’s five-year plan. The consultant is being paid for by a grant from the Federal Library Services and Technology Act.
“We are currently going through a planning process to update our future planning to better serve the patrons in Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties,” Stout said.
He said the consultant has formed a committee, comprised of people within the library, Friends of the Library board members and people from the local community.
“In order to better identify what our community needs, we are doing this current survey to get input directly from the user,” he said.
Stout said the system had done surveys in previous years, with the latest one coming in 2010. He said the library system received a favorable response, but they were able to identify some changes to improve the system.
Stout said he hopes the survey will help the library plan for the future.
“We want to see what our patrons want from us. We see people every day, but we don’t get a chance often, to directly as them what they want to see their library become,” he said.
Stout said in order to encourage participation, the library system is offering a chance to win a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart to anyone who fills out the survey.
